Our History
The Swedish School For Children in the Washington DC area was founded over 30 years ago. Today we have students ranging from 5-18 years as well as a “Knattegrupp” for 4-year olds. Based on the number of students, our school is one of the largest Swedish international part-time schools in the world. The school is run as a non-profit organization. Parents automatically become part of the school organization when they have one or more children enrolled in the current school year. Our official name is The Swedish School For Children Inc.. Since 1994, we have been registered as a non-profit organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The school’s board is elected among our parents by the annual meeting held in October. The board hosts an annual parent meeting usually held in the month of April within the current school year.
